PAIN - CHAPTER 02: ARGENT VS PARALELL-X

 The Student

A significantly lower but no less solemn building carved out its space in the heart of Metropolis. The Hall Of Justice was the headquarters of the Justice League: a society that welcomed many of the most powerful and valiant superheroes in the world. Hoshi was hospitalized in one of the luxurious and state-of-the-art rooms in the medical area. Outside the door two men were conversing.

"Is she fine?" Superman asked.

"Physically she does, she was okay from the beginning, but she is still a bit shocked. She's been here for three weeks. The doctors, fortunately, say she should be released in a couple of days”, Batman replied.

"Have you got the chance to talk to her?"

"Yes, but she was unable to add anything to what she said after her discovery in the meadow. I guess you already know. "

“Yes, Courtney told me. What’s your take on it? "

“We know the Hoshi’s character. It is not difficult to think that she has enemies. But she thinks it was an alien force. You know the universe much better than me, there is everything out there. "

“Parallel-X. Who knows if we will hear about him again. The future will tell us. "

“Or maybe Starfire. She just wrote me that Argent was attacked. She talked about Parallel-X as well."

"Argent?" Superman asked.

“She's a little girl. She’s in the contacts of the Teen Titans."

"Shit.”

Her bedroom had a gloomy appearance, its black walls were covered with posters of rock bands and creepy drawings, also in very dark colors. The curtains on the windows let in just a thread of light, so much so that any spectator would have wondered how Argent could read in such darkness. The report on George Washington was due by the following day and she was by no means well advanced. Until recently it would have been news; Argent, in fact, had always been a model student, disciplined and curious, as well as possessing an intelligence beyond the average. But with great power comes great responsibility, some would say. And Argent was of the same opinion. Being a student and superhero, however, turned out to be tougher than expected; and that day she would have the definitive proof.

Exhausted. She decided to take a regenerative walk around the block. A black cat, with shiny and soft fur, came upon her way. Argent deduced from its attitude that it wanted to be followed, and so she did. The animal led her to a dead end street closed by a wooden fence. Argent was perplexed, probably she had misunderstood the intentions of the cat, which, on the other hand, began to approach. It seemed to want to be caressed. Argent was waiting for nothing else, she loved cats. She had always wanted to own one, but sadly her mother was allergic. Its fur was as soft as she had expected it to be. However, the cuddles lasted very little. As soon as she touched the cat Argent was teleported elsewhere.

She began to wander the streets of an unknown and deserted city. She was inexplicably barefoot. A voice broke the silence.

“Hey there, young Argent, how are you doing? I introduce myself, I am Paralell-X.” Argent found she could not answer. She tried to speak, but her mouth made no sound. She was terrified and her mood certainly did not improve when she realized that her superpowers were also out of order. Shortly thereafter, two suspicious metal spheres came to visit her.

They approached her, one on each side, and then hit her with reddish energy bursts. The entire citizenry would have been awakened by Argent's screams of pain if the city had been inhabited. Instead, there was no one who could help her. All she had to do was endure all that suffering.

The next day at school she got an F.
