 Copacabana

A beautiful girl with unusual green hair sunbathed in solitude on Copacabana beach. She was reading Stephen King's latest work, of which to tell the truth she had struggled to reach chapter 7. It was almost six o'clock, time to put the towel and the rest of her things in the bag and join her friends in a kiosk on the seafront. It had been the usual kiosk for two months now in her daily routine. Indeed, Beatriz had taken a long break from her superhero job. A break from a life of frustration. Beatriz wanted to be a veterinarian, but then she discovered she had superpowers and her catholic morality required her to sacrifice her passion to help the Brazilian people by fighting the evil ones. Really noble, for heaven's sake, but, unfortunately, her superhero career wasn't going well. Her battle name, Fire, was little known and more famous heroes often took her credit. Like when Batman reshared a funny meme from her, but he was trending hashtag on Twitter. And on top of that, she ended up in the crosshairs of the fearsome Parallel-X. A simple white striped straw was the banal item that connected the world we know to the ephemeral one that Parallel-X had prepared especially for Beatriz. And behold, the tip of the straw that the bartender had stuck in the glass of Cuba libre was now between Beatriz's lips.

She immediately understood what was happening. "But are you angry with retired heroines too?!" Fire screamed, as she looked disconsolately at her bare feet chained to a large and very heavy ball of some unknown metal. She silently prayed to God that the treatment would not be as painful as it was said.

It was even worse than she expected.
