THE MUMMY: DANGER IN THE DESERT

1930 DC

A cheerful family was traveling along the dusty streets of Egypt on a splendid vintage convertible.

At the head was a blond man, Rick O'Connell, an American adventurer, former officer of the French Foreign Legion; to his right his wife, Evelyn Carnahan, a beautiful woman with flaming red hair, a highly respected Egyptologist; in the back seats their twelve year old son Alex.

They had almost reached Luxor, where a promising newly discovered archaeological site awaited them. This was their life now: a continuous journey around the world in search of traces of the past and hidden treasures. "I can't wait to get my hands on some antique vase to resell," said Rick. Evelyn shook her head disconsolately. "Remember that our mission is primarily cultural," she scolded him. It is evident that the two spouses had different philosophies.

However, the most enthusiastic of all was Alex. His mother had given him a passion for history and archeology, and he far preferred that life to making some friends.

The car braked sharply. "Here we are!" Rick exclaimed. They had finally arrived. The location was breathtaking: a desert expanse dotted with ancient pyramids and majestic buildings, but it was not those that interested the O'Connell, but a pavement that according to Evelyn hid the entrance to an underground tomb.

When the three got out of the car they immediately went to work. As usual, Evelyn took off her shoes because, according to her, standing barefoot she could better feel the vibrations of history. While the woman was intent on carefully examining the floor slabs, a few meters away Rick did the same but with less zeal; their son instead drew the imposing sphinx on his notebook a few hundred meters from them.

At least a couple of hours had passed when Alex yelled "Mom, watch out! There's a snake next to you!". Evelyn did not have time to react: she was immediately found  wrapped in the animal  coils. "Rick, help!" she shouted. So the man grabbed the animal and tried to free his wife, but it was useless, the grip was too strong. "Hold on dear, I'm going to look for something pointed," he said. Meanwhile Alex was crying, while Evelyn understood that the snake had every intention of crushing her.

The pressure on her body was becoming unsustainable and the woman therefore let out a scream of pain. She felt that her bones were about to thicken when she saw her husband, come running, wielding a harpoon . In fact, panicked, Rick had not immediately remembered he had a fishing tackle in the trunk of the car. Then he managed to injure the animal, which consequently ran away. Evelyn, relieved, passed out.

The work day ended then. We will get back the next day. Who knows what they could find out?
